CONTINUE...SINGER-SONGWRITER’S MILLION-SELLING VIRGIN RECORDS DEBUT STILL GOING STRONG AFTER NINE MONTHS IN RELEASE; TUNSTALL ADDS DECEMBER TOUR DATES
NEW YORK - Taking a well-deserved place alongside the artists who most defined the music of 2006, Virgin Records singer-songwriter KT TUNSTALL will be among the announcers of the 49th Annual Grammy Awards nominations. The nomination announcements will take place in Los Angeles on Dec. 7, 2006. Among Tunstall’s scheduled fellow announcers are Mary J. Blige, James Blunt, Rascal Flatts, and Justin Timberlake. Winners will be awarded at Grammy ceremonies at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 11, 2007, to be televised on CBS.
With album sales and public demand driven by continuing radio and television exposure of her album, Tunstall will also be touring the U.S. in early December (see dates below.) Tunstall’s EYE TO THE TELESCOPE album has sold over 1 million copies in the U.S, and is certified quintuple-platinum in Tunstall’s native U.K. Worldwide sales have exceeded 3.5 million copies.
Tunstall has been viewed as a Grammy frontrunner ever since the U.S. release in of her album in February 2006, when the unique pop-blues kick-off single "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" immediately became one of the year’s most durable radio and video hits. It held the national No. 1 spot at the Hot AC format through most of July and August, and, months later, remains Top 5 in national Adult Contemporary airplay.
The follow-up smash, "Suddenly I See," is now in the Top Ten in Hot AC airplay, and is also continuing to rise in Top 40 airplay. Numerous tracks from the album have also been featured in the country’s highest-rated television programs, including Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, American Idol and Will and Grace, as well as in the smash film comedy, The Devil Wears Prada.
In mid-October, Virgin Records released Tunstall’s Acoustic Extravaganza, a special CD/DVD package containing new acoustic songs, "unplugged" versions of two album tracks, and in-studio documentary video footage. The million-selling EYE TO THE TELESCOPE album has also been released in a special deluxe CD/DVD package, adding a new track, "Immune" to the CD. The DVD collates every music video from the album (including both U.S. and U.K. versions of the "Suddenly I See" clip), and adds five exciting live performances from her concerts in Washington D.C. and New York.
Over the course of the year, the singer-songwriter also took a leadership position among concerned artists by adopting a broadly eco-conscious approach to her career, announcing at the outset of her U.S. headline tour that she would travel in a bus modified to run on environmentally-friendly biodiesel fuel.

‘EYE TO THE TELESCOPE’ ACHIEVES PLATINUM U.S. SALES IN EIGHT-MONTH ALBUM CHART RUN
NEW YORK - As a thank-you gesture to the American fans who have driven U.S. sales of her debut album to 1 million copies, Virgin Records is releasing ACOUSTIC EXTRAVAGANZA, a special CD/DVD package by KT TUNSTALL. The CD audio program contains several new songs, “unplugged” versions of album tracks from EYE TO THE TELESCOPE, and a unique cover of Beck’s song “Golden Age.” The DVD includes documentary video footage filmed in Scotland and Ireland, accompanying three live full-song performances.
The album and DVD package was a personal project for Tunstall, who recorded all of it in a brief two-day period, and even supervised the artwork herself. It was originally a limited edition release available only through Tunstall’s U.K. website and as a digital download. The package will go to American retail on October 17, 2006. The audio material was recorded on the Isle of Skye, off the coast of Scotland, and produced by Telescope album producer Steve Osborne. CD tracks include acoustic versions of the EYE TO THE TELESCOPE album cuts “Universe and U” and “Miniature Disasters,” along with an unplugged version of the pre-album song “Throw Me a Rope.”
Tunstall’s debut album, certified by RIAA this week for platinum sales in the U.S., has proven to be one of the most persistent artist breakouts this year. “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree,” among the year’s most popular radio and video hits, held the national No. 1 spot at the Hot AC format through most of July and August. Eight months after album release, the song maintains Top 5 national Adult Contemporary airplay. The follow-up smash, “Suddenly I See,” hit the Top Ten in Adult Alternative airplay following its prominent placement as the opening theme of the hit film comedy The Devil Wears Prada. It also was heard this month as the pilot episode closing song of the new television season’s top-rated debut series, Ugly Betty.
