Adrian Aldsworth Even good socially aware companies make mistakes. What should be happening is a genuine and intelligent explanation. Unfortunately, H&M have chosen to sidestep the issue with the "do no meet safety or chemical restrictions" PR approach. Do what your holding statement says - take responsibility and address the issue.

disgusted and appalled by the reports that you destroy and trash perfect pieces of clothing and apparel rather than donating it. in iowa the temperatures are -52 as we speak..throughout the east coast there have been numerous warnings to the homeless encouraging them to find shelter due to the bitter, bitter cold we cu...rrently face. and to be completely honest, these temperatures just augment this the shameful practice..if it were 85 degrees and sunny throughout the country this information would embarrass and disgust me. i love h&m's clothing, but honestly is your corporation so greedy and money-hungry that you would rather WASTE clothing than offer it to those in need? how sad. i had hoped in light of all the recent exposure to corporate greed through the U.S., the American industries would open their eyes and their hearts and realize just because you exist to generate profits, does not mean you can ignore your social responsibilities to the communities in which you exist.

Popular clothing store H&M faced uproar Thursday over a report that one of its New York outlets is slashing and throwing out unsold clothing.
Chris so your throwing away unsold clothes withouth the chance to give it away for free to the poor? well a big middle finger to you n your money hungry company. me n my family are done with your company n ill practice policys. your a disgrace to america, with freezing temperatures in most of our country, homeless at all time high, poverty at all time high u disgust me!
Katie I really hope this will open H&M's eyes. That is horrible that they just throw out the clothing.....if their excuse is true I will never shop there again!
Gabriel Peralta Looks like H & M got the shaft on this one. Im sure other retailers do the same, H & M should publicly apologize and be the ones to set a trend to stop this from happening. Sounds like they are making an excuse and will probaby suffer a loss in sales over this one!

The clothes do no meet safety or chemical restrictions to be donated to charity, but they are apparently safe for you to sell them to peo...ple? What kind of chemicals are you exposing us to with your clothes?
Sadly I know first hand that Edie Bauer does the same thing. Target, at least the one here, donates them to Goodwill.

I have never heard such a load of rubbish in my entire life. Whoever wrote this story should be sacked for their lack of research and pure stupidity.
H and M works with all kinds of countries including a sewing school to help women in India and UNICEF to provide clean running water in many countries which cannot afford... it.All clothes that have to be written off are donated to countries like these which aren't as well off.
It is pathetic false stories like these that can wreck the reputation of a very reputable company that is more commited to sustainability than many others. I suggest people need to get their facts right and hope h and m doesn't decide to take action against them.well done to this journalist who is making a big contribution to world issues and the environment.
I love the way all these "fans" of h and m are so quick to turn against them from one person writing a lie.
